Fox is all set to bring back the apes. The studio has roped in filmmaker Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner film series, to direct another Planet of the Apes film.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has reached out to Wes for the same.
The original film of the Planet of the Apes came out in 1968. The film was based on a novel by French writer Pierre Boulle. It starred Charlton Heston. The film was based on a astronaut who lands a planet which is inhabited by apes, much advanced than humans. He later realizes that he is on earth, which has been hit by an apocalyptic nuclear war.
The film gained critical acclaim. It was also a box office success. The makers brought a remake of the film in 2001 but it bombed at the box office.
They gained success in 2011 after the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The film explained how the apes took over. The film starred James Franco and Freida Pinto. It was a huge hit.
